New to me films in bold
1 Iron Sky
2 Absinthe

adding
3 Transsiberian
Our houseguest - who has ridden the transsiberian railroad - was intrigued to see this so I watched it again with him. Still a nice taut thriller on second viewing even if there are enough plot holes to drive a.... well, a train through
4 Withnail & I
Never fails to amuse, and so quotable

A usual, new to me movies are in bold

1. The Switch A really ridiculous premise, and Jason Bateman couldn't pull it together.
2. Friends with Kids Nice ensemble, fully fleshed out characters, it was fun.

Two movies back to back about late-thirtysomethings having kids...

1) Blackout
2) Young Adult
3) Battle Royale
4) Sleepwalk with Me

This never really clicked with me.  I had heard a couple of the stories and they were hilarious when he was telling them, but they just didn't seem to translate into movie format very well.

3. The Hobbit Definitely lighter than LotR, and I enjoyed the sing along portion. Did wonder where are the women of Middle Earth are, though.

A cute office comedy about aliens wanting to blow up the earth.  Not great, but definitely has flashes of brilliance.

1. Shattered Glass - dvd - 2.5 / 5
2. Love - Netflix streaming - 3 / 5
3. Aeon Flux - Netflix streaming - 2.5 / 5
4. Melancholia - Netflix streaming - 3 / 5

5. Thor (reviewing) - Netflix streaming - 3/5

Better than the first time, actually. The destroyer still wasn't as impressive as it should have been, but the story wasn't as weak as it felt initially. (I realize I may feel more favorably towards it this time because I'm drunk...)

All new to me...

1. High Anxiety - Mel Brook's is like the Rush or Elvis Presley of film.  I can respect his works to a certain extent and his influence on comedy, but I just can't appreciate it on the same level as those who truly enjoy it.

1.  Rise of the Guardians--went to see this kids film with my nieces this afternoon.  Cute little story about the people kids believe in (santa, easter bunny, tooth fairy, sand man, jack frost and the boogeyman)

1. Kentucky Fried Movie
2. John Carter - Not bad but not good either.
3. Tangled
4. Bugmaster - A live-action remake of a manga and animated television show. I've seen episodes of the animated show and this almost lives up to it. I give them a lot of points for the minimal use of CGI... it was used sparingly so the world feels real (which is important to the story).

1. MOONRISE KINGDOM - 01/01/13 - dvd from library - 3.5 out of 5 - gorgeous as always
2. THE HEDGEHOG - 01/01/13 - dvd from library - 3.5 out of 5
3. THIS IS 40 - 01/06/13 - AMC Phipps w/Tiffany (Victor was supposed to meet us but he went to Parkway Pointe instead) - 3.5 out of 5 - LOTS of things in this movie really stuck with me. I was annoyed by their money issues (while they flaunted their fancy automobiles and interior design pr0n), but the relationship issues were ON POINT. It was also fun to see nearly everyone in the Apatow universe make an appearance (where was Martin Starr, DAMN IT!).

Movies seen in 2013 (new movies in bold):
1. Life of Pi
2. This is 40
3. Beasts of the Southern Wild

This is 40: it was .... kind of a movie? I didn't feel like there was a specific issue or a specific resolution. They present situations and do a good job making the most of them, but it never really feels like the film is "done." However, lots of funny parts that I definitely was laughing out loud at, so that's good. The acting is very well done, and the large cast is fun. I felt like the main characters fought... A LOT... and then fought some more. It kind of got annoying. Maybe that's the point, but I don't know if I really enjoyed "the point" if so. Regardless, I'm glad I saw it.

BotSW: I didn't get it. It was beautiful and fantastical and sad, but I don't think I really got it. What was the point?

5 Butter
This grossed just $72000 when it was released at the tail end of last year. Why so little? This film is f***ing hilarious, has a stellar cast and is wonderfully presented and filmed. A Hugh Jackman/Olivia Wilde/Jennifer Warner film made just $72,000? Whoever recommended this... GsPotD!!

An interesting time loop movie about 3 people in rehab.  Not great, but not horrible either.
