So I've been listening to this since I bought the album last weekend. Very first impression: reminds immediately of 'The Eraser', sorta like "The Eraser II". Several listens later: it's solid, but definitely falls short of "The Eraser". 10 listens in: I'm surprised how all the songs sound alike, the album is like one long 45 min. track to me.
Compared to most commercial mainstream stuff, "Amok" is pure gold of course. But I can't help but feel a bit disappointed at the lack of diversity. Also, why did Thome and Nigel need the three extra musicians for? For live shows, that is a no-brainer. But for the studio stuff? I don't see it.
