25 Hour Gaming Marathon for Charity
« on: September 20, 2013, 09:41:35 AM »

Extra Life http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm? coordinates an annual event: A 25-hour gaming marathon to raise money for children's hospitals. This year I'm participating. It's officially on November 2nd, but my group will be doing it on the 9th. We're raising money for Boston Children's Hospital. There will be five of us, and we'll be playing board and card games for 25 hours straight. We're looking into setting up a webcam for live streaming and everything.

If you'd like more info click the link above. If you'd like to donate to my group message me for the link to my account. Cheers!

I'll donate a small amount. Instead of messaging you...I'm posting here. However, you can message me your account info (I searched for luisterpaul but it didn't come up).

Don't do it, LP.  "Dan" is a really Nigerian prince and will take you for all you own and love.  Take it from me.

Didn't this just happen all over the world?  I think it was called the release of GTA 5.

Except not nearly as much money will change hands this time.

Looks like we're going to set up a webcam or two to stream video, possibly over twitch.tv. I'll share a link in time for the event so you can tune in and watch the silliness. This might be particularly attractive to anyone who happens to have insomnia Saturday night.

Just over two weeks to go, and I've raised almost $500! My team has raised $4600. This is very exciting! If you'd like to make a (tax deductible) donation to the cause, even just $1, let me know and I'll send you the link.

Thanks!

Welp, it was this past weekend, and it was a huge success. My friends and I raised just under $1700. We got in 26 unique games (a couple were played more than once) over the course of the 25 hours. Eleven people participated: The core of five, as well as six friends who made "guest appearances" as they were available. One of them even showed up at 6:30 Sunday morning with fresh energy and bagels.

The SO and I are in agreement: We'd love to do it again next year.

Thanks! It was actually easier than I expected. We were having so much fun the time flew by. Nobody said "Thank God we're done!" Most were even hesitant to leave. I was seriously tempted to invite people to stay a while longer since I intended to stay up until early evening before sleeping. Why not pass the time with more games? :)

That's awesome, Paul :)

I wish my friends would agree to play something other than Munchkin...
