Oscars 2014

The place to discuss the nominations, the snubs, etc!

I guess FRUITVALE STATION peaked too soon in the year.
I wish that FRANCES HA would have received a screenplay nomination or a nomination for Greta.

Snubs and flubs?

I was underwhelmed by American Hustle and Wolf of Wall Street.  Planning on seeing HER this weekend, and the others will have to wait for DVD or Cable, I guess.  Missed out on NEBRASKA, just had too much going on and now it's not playing here anymore.

How is Before Midnight an Adapted Screenplay? What did they adapt that from? I would have thought it would be an Original Screenplay.

oh man, no Fruitvale?  June is an early time for a movie, especially one that has a serious theme.  I want Michael B. Jordan to get lots of awards!

Saw American Hustle, and I don't know that it's really an award-winning film.

Adapted from the original screenplay of BEFORE SUNSET would be my guess.

Random thoughts:

FIRST AND FOREMOST: Belgium scores again! Yey! Best Foreign Picture nom with The Broken Circle Breakdown. That makes 2 nominations in 3 years. They are dancing in the streets in Flanders (yes, both these nominations were Flemish films.)  If you have a chance to see this movie, DO NOT MISS IT, it's outstanding.

Even though American Hustle and Gravity have the most nominations (10 each), methinks the stars are aligned for a big night for 12 Years A Slave. No hard evidenvce, just an inkling.

Biggest losers: 1. Inside Llewyn Davis is pretty much ENTIRELY ignored. Not even Best Pic!
2. Robert Redford not a Best Actor nomination for All Is Lost?

Meryl Streep nominated for her over-the-top "look, it's me! I'm ACTING!" role in August: Osage County?!? I'm dumbfounded.

Fruitvale ignored, yes, but I felt that was an overrated picture all along.

HER is the only Best Movie nomination I haven't seen yet. Will be seeing it soon.
