i don't think john kennedy toole was trying to get cheap laughs.  he killed himself because the book wouldn't be published. from what i've read, he was absolutely sincere about his characters.  it was more than ignatius.

Back to a version of the original question, 3 books my book club recommends to our new members are

1. Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
2. The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America by Erik Larson
3. The Double Bind by Chris Bohjalian

Personally, it's Jane Eyre, Howl's Moving Castle, and Ella Minnow Pea.

Nope. Seems like there's too much there - too many books, too long, etc. It says there are 14 books! Yikes.

yeah, i wonder if i could do it.  obviously sounds like a challenge.  will you set up a go fund me campaign and donate to it?  you can forget about a per diem or whatever it's called

how do i go about that?  anyway, i bought the first book at my spot in madison, indiana, village lights.  an homage to city lights

and since it was too much a hassle for you people, i went ahead and paid the three dollars for the book and won't be asking for any of your help from now on!
