How long has the homepage been giving errors?
« on: June 02, 2016, 08:27:10 PM »

Hey folks, site owner here.  How long as the main site homepage had all of these error messages at the top?

May 17 is when we first noticed it. Some people have the issues and others didn't, and then it seemed to fix itself.

I'm still having issues on my iPhone.  On my laptap, I type www.randomville.com/Daily/ and that gets me to the messageboard.  Otherwise, I'd have problems with my laptop as well.

I'm still seeing the errors. I found an older link that takes me straight to the forums.

At this time, I recommend going directly to the message boards and skipping the front page entirely. http://www.randomville.com/Daily/

So what's our backup plan, ya know, in case this thing disappears on us some day?

I hate to be Debbie Downer, but I assume there isn't one.

If we're throwing out ideas, I would gladly help fund a site but I don't know the first thing about running one.

I mean, we're all a little older now and make a little more money, so throwing cash at a website is much more feasible now than it used to be. But how much does it cost to run a site?

To the best of my knowledge, there is no backup plan. I think I'm the only person doing regular admin tasks on the message boards, and I don't have full access to the entire site. As for cost, well, it depends. If we want basic message boards and allow ads, there are services out there that are (nearly?) free. If we want to host our own space with a domain, it costs a little for a domain name but nothing too awful. Would we want to continue having a commercial enterprise as we technically are today? What about the current content (boards and blog), if we're able to acquire it? Who is going to build/migrate/admin the new site?

Since there is no backup plan, it behooves us to discuss adyonka's points and come up with something.  I am not nearly computer savvy enough to administer a new site.  But I'm willing to pitch in $ for whatever's decided upon.  Active users, what route should we take?

Seems to me like the answers (for me) are:
Basic Message Board is fine.
If you want to try to acquire the current content, that wouldn't be bad. I mean, saving old board data would be good, right?
