Atlanta's Shaky Knees Festival
« on: January 30, 2018, 10:44:31 PM »

va-vacious and I went to Shaky Knees a couple years ago, and I was able to check off a band I'd been waiting since Junior High to see: Huey Lewis and the News. Also finally saw Jane's Addiction. We didn't go last year, as I had just gotten back from a trip to England. This year has a few bands I have always wanted to see, with a good mixture of newer artists and some that have been around a couple decades.

a much better line-up than the recently announced Bunbury in Cincinnati, that's for sure!

Franz Ferdinand! BMRC! Brian Jonestown Massacre! Just to name those... (bands that'd interest me)

I'm guessing that this fest has a much larger booking budget than Bunbury

What is the expected attendance at this fest? Just curious

I'm not sure how many they are expecting. They moved venues from when we went two years ago. I think it's a little smaller? They had three stages last time (and the third was TINY, but those were the unknown bands that I ended up really enjoying). Supposedly capacity is 40,000, but that seems high to me.

Also, I am surprised that Franz Ferdinand is so low on the list. And I'm excited about Lord Huron and Manchester Orchestra- those will be fun!

That's a weird mix of music I loved from 15-20 years ago through to music I dig now.

Last year's was pretty heavy on the new side of things, I think. It's a good mix this year, since I like the mix of old and new, too.

Bunbury is about $200
Today they are both in the Tier 2 pricing at $179 + fees.

The ticket premiums are lower at Bunbury. VIP is $650 at SK and $450 at Bunbury. The top tier is $1500 at SK and $1399 at Bunbury.

Given that both festivals are priced more or less the same, ATL is getting a LOT more for their money.
