1.  3/30/2018 - Supersuckers/Drivin N Cryin/Tommy Grit & The Pricks--Southgate House Revival, Newport, Kentucky
2.  4/7/2018 - Karla Bonoff--Ludlow Garage, Cincinnati, Ohio
3.  4/21/2018 -  Sierra Hull/Don Gallardo--Southgate House Revival, Newport, Kentucky
4.  5/1/2018 - Calvin Johnson/Anissa Pulcheon---Black Plastic Records, Cincinnati, Ohio

5.  8/31/2018--Kid Congo Powers & The Pink Monkey Birds/Slim Cessna's Auto Club--MOTR Pub, Cincinnati, Ohio

I give a mini-review of this show in the Coming To MOTR thread.  This was only my fifth gig this year.  I don't have the time or inclination to go to as many as TayFo does but five is still too few. Maybe I'll pick up the pace the last four months of the year.

I refuse to shut up about Johnny Dowd until the world recognizes his musical genius.  I may lose my voice before that happens but at least I can enjoy the man's music while going mute.

Don't feed trolls by responding to or acknowledging them.

Had planned to walk over and watch the show but discovered we could just as easily sit on our balcony and listen without having to get into the melee.

9-1: The Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio - MOTR

Fuckin' hell this show was solid. JohnnyRoyale (remember him?) turned us onto this Seattle-based band last year and we were super bummed to have missed their set at Plaid Room on Record Store Day, so when we heard they were coming back through town on their way to the Detroit Jazz Fest we knew we couldn't miss them.

DLo3 are one of the tightest - yet loosest - bands I've seen in ages. Amazingly tight drummer, Lamarr's Hammond was ON POINT and guitarist Jimmy James blew the roof off the place. Bluesy, funky, soulful, on fucking fire.

There was no opener and they played two sets to a crowd who could not get enough. If you get a chance to see them, DO IT.

anna burch is featured on some of the better fred songs....kind of a missed opportunity that she didn't join him for them, especially since he is playing for her part on this tour. they should just embrace the swapping of roles.

Fuck yes.

10-31: Mothers / Mega Bog / Orchards - MOTR

I was really looking forward to seeing Mothers but man, were they dull. I mean, they sounded amazing but had the stage presence of a dishrag. Mega Bog was just sorta meh with songs that meandered without really beginning or ending. Yawn. Local psych-pop opener Orchards was by far the best of the three - great tunes, witty onstage banter and just plain fun.

It was Halloween, so most of the MOTR crowd was in costume, as were the bands. And once again Orchards won the night with theirs. While Mothers and Mega Bog kinda half-assed some silly hats (and one half-assed Spiderman costume), Orchards all dressed as members of the Scooby Doo gang. The drummer was Freddie, the dude guitarist was Velma, the chick guitarist was Daphne and the bassist was ... too cool to dress up.

4.  5/1/2018 - Calvin Johnson/Anissa Pulcheon---Black Plastic Records, Cincinnati, Ohio

The K Records website, as well as at least one of the other venues on his mini tour of the Midwest, gives the artist credit as Selector Dub Narcotic. But Black Plastic Records promoted it as a Calvin Johnson gig, so that's what I'm calling it.

But whether you refer to the headliner as SDN or by his real name, you get Calvin Johnson in hip hop mode, something I'm not inclined to appreciate.  But Johnson was really funny,  satirized rap's bombast and macho posturing and varied things by playing some melodica and even singing a little.   He performed for 37 minutes, which isn't bad for a record store gig, and the great weather allowed the show to be held on the sidewalk in front of the store.  And Calvin still has the DIY spirit:  while I'm sure he could afford to have t-shirts commercially printed with the name of his record label and recording studio, he was wearing a plain white tee with obviously homemade writing on it--it looked like the homemade t-shirt my daughter wore to her first We The Kings concert, if not as well done.  All in all, a good time was had by the 30 or so of us gathered for the show.

Finally got to listen to Calvin's new album and it's excellent. I am really kicking myself for missing this show.

7. 12/6 STARS/my brightest diamond @ st. andrews, detroit, MI

always good to see stars, but man, the crowds have no decency. why pay ~$40 bucks to sit and talkLOUDLY all through a  concert? the talkers definitely ruined the vibe mid-show, but after bitching to the crowd, stars took off and nailed the rest of the show.
