TATBILB: Cute and fun. We had trouble with the fact that the older sister was supposed to be a freshman in college. SHE'S 31 and looks like it! Terrible casting for that role, even if the rest of her acting was lovely.

Margot looks at least 35, right?!?!?

So glad you guys enjoyed it. I think va and I have watched it at least 20 times between the two of us.

I guess I'll be watching a lot more HBO and SHO in the months to come, but it's just not the same. The fact is that I love seeing movies in the theater.

Now is a good time to sign up for one of those movie streaming services. :p

29. Contagion

Legally Blonde: because in these times, sometimes you need something light and uplifting and fun. Still checks all those boxes.

Bombshell: Very very good. Recommended. It's hard to watch at first b/c of how much it's got Trump in it, and right wing values, and all that Fox News stuff, but if you keep going it's much better than any of that. I actually said to my wife at one point, "I can't even tell that is Charlize Theron" which is how much she transforms into that character.

Downsizing: not ANYTHING like what I thought it was. I think this is a classic case of terrible marketing. That being said, I still had trouble with almost the entire concept. Basically, I had trouble with the suspension of disbelief. I kept saying things like "the scale is all wrong for that" or "huh? WHHHHY???." If you got past that, it's a movie about a standard frumpy middle aged man trying to find himself, which is nice.

Contagion: Hah! Seemed appropriate in some ways. Very good! The virus is so much worse than our virus, so that's nice for us. And it ends positively-ish, so that's relieving.

22. The Nightingale (Hulu) - 8

Hard to watch.  Like not even really gory, but there are at least 3 rapes depicted in extremely graphic detail.  About the first non-Aboriginal Australians settling in Tasmania, and basically how horrendous their life was under colonial rule.  Violence all the time, everywhere.

31. The Shawshank Redemption
32. Spenser Confidential

I Kill Giants: an indie film we found on Hulu. It's about a teenager who faces her fears while defending her town from giants. I guess. It's a lot more, and it's really good. Like, by the end I was going "how come I've never heard of this?" it was so good. Highly recommended.

Shawshank: knowing it was filmed in Ohio, those scenes at the end outside the prison made me nostalgic for home.

Spenser Confidential: predictable and formulaic, but I'm the target audience and thus I enjoyed it thoroughly. Probably not for you, but hey it was a good time for me.

Updating the last week:
29. After Truth: The Disinformation and Cost of Fake News (HBO)
30. Ice On Fire (HBO On Demand)
31. My True Brilliant Friend (HBO On Demand)
32. New Order Decades (SHO On Demand)
33. Ready For War (SHO On Demand)
34. Kill Chain: The Cyber War On America's Elections (HBO)

I have never watched as much TV as I have in the past week, and find that there is a LOT of good stuff out there.

After Truth and Kill Chain are 2 new documentaries on HBO which every Trump fan will immediately dismiss as fake news (without seeing either film, of course). Kill Chain is the sequel of sorts to the 2006 HBO documentary Hacking Democracy, in which a hacker hacks the voting machine right in front of the local election officials, much to their astonishment. Get this: that very same voting machine is still around and scheduled for use in the 2020 elections in an astonishing 20 US states. The 3 remaining voting machine manufacturers in North America are exposed as incredibly vulnerable, yet do nothing about it. And for good measure: relive what happened in the 2018 elections in Georgia and Alaska. Keep a vomit bucket handy as you may very well may want to throw up from watching this.

My True Brilliant Friend is a documentary about the making of the My Brilliant Friend tv series in Italy. Nothing earth shattering but just enjoyable all around.

Ready For War is a documentary about deported war veterans as in: non-US citizens (mostly green card holders) are recruited by the US military with the promise of citizenship, which never comes. Then, after their stay in the military, they commit a felony (typically: a drug charge), go to jail, and upon completion of their jail term, are deported by ICE. Do you see anything wrong here? (I certainly do.)

New Order Decades is a documentary about the band's 2017-18 shows "deconstructing" and "reinventing" their catalog with the assistance of a "synthesizer orchestra" (12 players strong). Their 1980s output remains compelling, now they're just old.

new to me in bold, (D+ = disney plus), otherwise netflix

1. star wars: a new hope - a friend of mine had never seen any star wars movie!
2. the empire strikes back - the plot lines really make no sense.
3. toy story 4, D+ - cute, was fun and a nice break from reality
4. zootopia, D+, fun buddy cop romp through zootopia, enjoyed.
5. iron sky: the coming race - space nazis? moon fuhrer? extremely campy sci fi about space nazis. kept my attention, as it was good silly fun. apparently, this is a sequel, now i'll need to see the original.
6. zombeavers - kinda all stated in the title. seemed familiar, not sure if i had already watched it. if you're a fan of the genre, it's worth a watch.
7. big hero 6 D+ - solid superhero animated movie that captured my attention.
8. avengers: age of ultron D+ - finishing up the MCU. didn't like this one at all.
9. captain america: civil war D+ - liked this one even less. would've been pissed had i watched this in a theater. took me a few days to finish it.
10. kung fu panda 2 D+ - thought i had watched this. was ok.
11. incredibles 2 D+ - still enjoyable
12. mary poppins returns - not as good as the original, but i was a kid back then. emily blunt does a great job.
13. the croods - cave family ventures out. typical family fare with feel good themes throughout. i did like this.
