New Food Finds

We had one of these before, but I think it died, and since I've got not one, but 2 new finds, I started another (so there!)

Find 1:
Morton's Hot Salt.  This stuff is awesome.  We don't have a lot of spices bought for the new place yet (really hardly any), and we saw this at K-Roger the other day, and it was relatively cheap, so we picked it up.  We were not disapointed.  It's salt plus chipotle chili powder.  We used it last night on Frozen pizzas and french fries and it was fantastic.  We also tried it on a bag of Homestyle microwave popcorn, and it was great too.

Find 2:
Entemann's Starr Puff donuts.  They're like a long john donut (or ding dong or whatever you call them in your region), only it's not so much that it makes you feel like you're going to die.  They're basically a yeast donut covered in chocolate, with a creme filling.  Kwyjibo proudly proclaimed them the best donut he's ever had.

I'm trying out a new cake recipe for our office bake sale--will report back to you tomorrow. The frosting for it is the friggin' bomb though (think a spreadable truffle) :D

Okay, I'll be posting this in the great recipes thread as soon as I can remember to bring it into work but I tried a peppermint patty cake recipe for our office bakesale. Now, the texture is somewhere between fudgy brownie and a flourless cake--it's good but not fabulous (I kinda rushed the batter lastnight though) HOWEVER when you put the ganache topping on it (think spreadable truffles) it becomes "holy f*ck, this is amazing."

I can't wait to unleash it on the dieters here at work

Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper...

And I'm not making that up! Someone in my office brought in a 2 liter so that we could all try it. I couldn't get over the "diet drink" taste, but those in my office who normally drink diet sodas LOOOOOOOOVED it.

Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper

As my grandmother would say, "I've never heard tell of such a thing."

We must not be a big enough market to get it yet. That's too bad, it sounds good.

Try Trader Joe's Tomato Basil Hummus.  It's awesome on their little pita bread thingies... or on carrots.

My new Trader Joe's food find is their frozen chocolate chip cookie dough cookies - raw cookie dough in the shape of cookies, frozen.   It is sooooooo good.

I liked the TJ's marinara sauce we tried with their gnocchi the other week.  We liked the gnocchi too, but jeez, it's so filling.  It's like dumplings (or so I'm told, as the very idea of dumplings grosses this picky eater out).

They also have this dark chocolate block that is out of this world.  Sweet Jeebus, it takes every ounce of restraint not to eat that entire thing in one sitting.

I love TJ's, but why does the 2 Buck Chuck cost $3.99?

We've only made the trek out twice, but it seems like they're either really inexpensive or really expensive.  No inbetween like most supermarkets.

And why do they claim to be a super fun wicked grocery experience?  It's not fun.  Fun grocery shopping is Jungle Jim's.

liquorice altoids.

AWESOME when you get used to their 'curiously strong' licorice taste.  Hopefully, if I have too many of these, the same thing that happens when I eat too many licorice jelly beans WON'T happen.
