shocking ain't it,especially when Atlantic/Elektra are paring their roster to under a 100 acts.(combined they have 180)

could be a smart move.  Hey, STB, what's up with the stuff I was reading on Jessica Simpson signing to an indie--is that just bunk :?:

I agree.

I don't think Mandy Moore's out there listening to Xiu Xiu or anything but her M.O. has always been a little different Britney's.

I think Mandy Moore takes her singing pretty seriously.  I mean it's not the stuff we listen to, but she her focus is more on the quality of the cd, not how many copies it sells.  Being young, her taste might not be the best by I consider her an entirely legitimate "artist" (in the singing sense).

Britney is an entertainer.  And I think that's what she wants to be.  Christina for all her vocal chops is also an entertainer for now (but she may move into the artist category).

i agree too.  Mandy Moore has a good voice, and much better taste than her counterparts.  Or maybe I think that because she's hot.  hmmm....

it's the fact that she's almost 6'0" and in her 20s that make her hot....

"The United Artists release was produced by R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe's Single Cell banner, and features a Moore/Stipe duet on the Beach Boys' "God Only Knows."

this would be very interesting to hear.
that song is incredibly difficult to sing and play with almost 49 key changes.

I imagine it will be decent.  She plays it pretty straight, and won't do it if it sounds lousy.  Unfortunately she probably plays it TOO straight-- all her covers are very tasteful and well-executed but there's nothing particularly exciting or new in them either.  She's covered XTC and Elton John so why not Beach Boys?

I'd actually be a bit more worried about Michael Stipe.

My bet is that with R.E.M.'s poor album sales over the last three, the label is telling him to make a relationship with the younger record buyers.  A duet with a teen pop sensation is a way to do that.

Wonder if Warner's $80 million contract with the Athens boys is looking so good now?

then again, compared to the Britbot and Miss Dirrty,Mandy didn't have monster sales.

Mandy may have sold loads but her stuff hardly got any airplay on the radio because most CHR stations were trying to steer clear of playing loads of teen-pop
