Thanks for mentioning these Bubba. I have a bunch of Shoes demos on cassette that Jeff Murphy sent me in that "care package" from long ago, but these releases make it much handier to listen to, especially since I haven't listened to a cassette in ages.

Mentioned this elsewhere but I discovered two albums last night by Seth Avett of the Avett Brothers from 2009 on Rdio.  The artist is listed as Timothy Seth Avett as Darling, which sounds pretentious as hell, I know.  These are both very good.  They are obviously not as polished as the Avett's stuff but if you're a fan of Seth's ballads (Ballad of Love and Hate, In the Curve etc.) you will like this.  There is some playfulness but they're not as obviously silly/fun as the Avett canon. 

Dude must have songs coming out of his ears.  Good thing for me that I don't tire of them.

Finally tore myself away from Shoes new album to listen to this - what a great power pop album! Thanks for the recommendation. He reminds me alternately of Matthew Sweet, Squeeze, Velvet Crush and Any Trouble.

Holograms.  I can't tell you how much I needed an album like this right now.  One of my favorites of the year.

I stumbled onto Bill Fay and his latest album (the regrettably named Life is People) on Spotify and am completely taken with it.  I'm not great at comparing how this album stacks up with others or where it stands historically, but what is apparent is that it's a blood pressure reducing recording and I sort of need that right now.  His is also a need story of personal redemption after toiling in obscurity for most of his career.

This is why I don't want to leave music behind: all these odd, little discoveries which land at your feet at the perfect time.  A complete stranger now shelters with you.  It's a good thing.

I'm three tracks in. It's ok - more of the same really, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Maybe a bit more upbeat than the debut.

EDIT: I got really bored by the end. But it took about two years for the debut to grow on me, so I'm not going to condemn it as crap just yet.
