Bones
« on: June 22, 2005, 01:25:40 AM »

I just saw a promo for Bones during tonight's episode of House. The leads are Emily Deschanel (Zooey's older sister) and David Boreanaz. It's based on novelist Kathy Reichs and her fictional counterpart Dr. Temperance Brennan. I've met Dr. Reichs a few times, and have read all her books, so this intersection with my TV viewing is quite unexpected. The promo seemed to imply a bit of dark humor, so that's promising.

Now if we can have James Marsters on TV each week...

Does Emily look and/or sing anything like her sister?

Ooh!  That would be hoTT!!!  As long as he keeps doing the English accent.  His American accent makes him sound kinda retarded.

That's why my vote is for Spike: The TV Show.

Coolness, I finally saw a commercial for Bones.  It looks pretty good.  I like how David Boreanaz seems to have kept his goofy/snarky Angelness for this character.  I miss Angel.

While I had seen the movie version of Buffy (during my obsession with Ben Affleck - he was basketball player #10 - and I know that wasn't the movie Joss intended), I didn't watch Buffy at first. My sister starting watching, and I watched with her occassionally. When she moved to land of no WB and UPN, I had to tape the last couple of seasons for her.

I had watched the first few episodes of Angel, but then didn't watch until Pylea. I was finally hooked.

So most of the episodes I watched on their originial airing involved Spike. So it's all Spike, for me.

I never did watch Firefly, and after seeing Nathan Fillion on Buffy and Adam Baldwin and Gina Torres on Angel, I don't know if I can make them the "good" guys.

So you can call me a fan of most things Joss Whedon. (I have Toy Story on DVD, too.)  :)

Have you seen Titan A.E.?  That was penned by Joss.  It's pretty funny.  Got some good voice work by Matt Damon, Drew Barrymore, and Janeane Garofalo.

And oh lookit, another opportunity for me to mention that I'm going to see Serenity!  Tomorrow night!!!

It's in my Netflix queue; I should move it up.

Enjoy the movie! I look forward to your review.

I HATED Nathan Fillion with a passion after what his character on BtVS did to Xander.  So much so that I shelved my Firefly DVD for awhile and refused to watch it.  Got over it, though, and after a few viewings, he's all right.

Adam Baldwin's character is not really a good guy at all.  Speaking of whom, yay for this:

Yummy!  Totally one of my favorite characters.  Best line: "If wishes were horses, then we'd be eating steak."
Oh, and he's got a new show on Fox called "The Inside," which I finally caught an episode of tonight.  Looks like it's about FBI agents getting inside the heads of the criminals.  I guess.  Next week's episode looks better than the one I saw tonight.

Anyway, Gina Torres... I hated her Angel character, Jasmine, with a fiery passion.  It took a LOT of viewings of my Firefly DVD before I could stand her character.  She's my least favorite of them by far.  It's still a good show, though.

I saw Kathy Reichs speak at the bookstore Wednesday night. The show begins on September 13. It's scheduled for the 8 PM time slot just before House on Tuesdays. They have 13 episodes scheduled so far. If the show stays on the schedule, it will follow American Idol in the spring. That placement really helped House in its first year.

She reviews the scripts - particularly for scientific accuracy, but there are 7 writers for the show. The Temperance Brennan character will be based at the Jeffersonian Institute (which is a stand-in for the Smithsonian) and writes novels featuring Kathy Reichs - a nice little switch. Kathy said that David is quite the family man - lots of his family came through NYC during the week when the show was announced.

Unfortunately, I didn't get a promo DVD - I didn't get there in time.

I'll have my review in after the premiere.
