I just finished watching Singles on one of the HBO channels. When it came out in the theatres, I was 15, so most of it was over my head (relationships, breaking up, etc.)...I just liked the music. ;)

Tonight was probably the first time I've seen the movie straight-through in a few years. Now that I'm 27, I was cringing at some of the dialogue and actions. It was as if someone videotaped portions of my life. Add to that, some of the characters reminded me of people I currently know...especially Debbie Hunt (the "Expect the Best" chick) and Cliff (Matt Dillon's character).

I guess in some ways, I'm in the period that Linda (Kyra Sedwick) was in at the beginning of the film. Living on her own, career-oriented and just enjoying singledom. Still love the soundtrack, though. :)

Yeah, I'll always love that soundtrack. I was 17 when I saw it, about to start my senior year in high school and saw it with a girl who (little did I know it at the time) was about to break up with me. I never let any of that ruin my opinion or memories of the film.

I need to watch it again.

first soundtrack I ever bought - indeed, it shares the honors with the chili peppers and g 'n r as one of the first cds I ever bought!

impossible to ever tire of this classic soundtrack.  "dyslexic heart," baby! 8)

(sorry, about the movie:  it's good too!)

The movie isn't that great.  Anything that reflects upon a certain scene or style of music is bound to roll some eyeballs when it's good and dead.  It's like Saturday Night Fever.  Bad movie.  Great soundtrack.

Funny. I saw it about a month ago for the first time in forever... and I really liked it! I thought the story and the characters held up really well in 12 years. Matt Dillon was brilliant as the dim-wit, Bridget Fonda was adorable, and Kyra and Campbell's story was my favorite, all backed up by a soundtrack that you can use to pinpoint to the MINUTE when the movie was made.
