I just got A A A A when I was playing at a money table at Poker Champs. I played it cool and actually won a little money. Woo Hoo!

Man, this is an awesome hand to get.  I spent about nine hours playing poker yesterday, at a limit Hold 'Em table at Grand Victoria Casino.  And I had quad aces on one hand.  I picked up AA in late position, and came in for a raise. I got a couple callers.  The flop came back with an Ace, and an Ace came on fourth street.  Fortunately for me, one of the poor bastards who called me had a wired pair of sevens, and one of the board cards was a seven, so he had a boat.  I actually felt bad.  There's no way to announce that you have quads without seeming smug about it.  It was quite a rush, though.

I would get my comeuppance later, though, when I picked up KK in third position.   I again came in for a raise.  A guy in middle position re-raised, and then some douche wearing sunglasses capped it.  So now I'm looking at 10 more dollars to see a flop, but I have to call.  The flop came back AKQ rainbow.  Now, I've got a set of K's, which is almost impossible to lay down, even if the other players' preflop behavior hinted that one of them might have Aces.  So I of course come out for a bet. The guy in middle position raises it, the douche re-raises, and I cap it.  Both the turn and the river are blanks, and we again go through the dance of bet-raise-reraise-cap, which means we've now each put a shitload more money in the pot.

Now, I was almost positive that one of those guys was holding Aces, but there was always a chance they had AK and AQ.  I knew this to be implausible, but allowed the thought to enter my mind because I can't lay down three Kings, damn it!  And I didn't think either would have stayed with J-10, even suited.  So there was only one hand that could beat me, and there was no way I was  laying down that set of cowboys.

As you might have guessed, the fellow in middle position held wired queens.  And the douche held two Aces, raking home a huge pot, with which I'm certain he purchased some more sunglasses.  He wasn't at all magnanimous about his victory, as you also may have guessed.

Lots more happened, and I may post some more of my poker adventures later, but that's it for now.

BTW, Butter, has soccer replaced online poker in your life?  What happened to you, man?  What happened to this thread?

I've been playing online a lot lately. Butter has soccer and I have poker I guess.

Today I was on fire. Butter actually joined me at the table (I was home and he was at work) and he did pretty well too.

I play the 2/4 cent limit tables at Poker Champs so I didn't bring in big bucks, but then again I never lose big bucks either.

Donuts on you next time, buddy. Especially if I rack up another marginal victory. See you then. ;)

I found out this weekend that Poker Champs has Sit 'N Go's now.  That's far more likely to get me to play again.  I don't like cash games that much (see: my earlier $23 loss on a 1/2 table that portends my trepidation), and those larger tournaments just take me too long to play at work right now, seeing as I'm doing 2 people's jobs... The soccer fits into my schedule a lot better, since I can pick it up and leave it at will according to my workload.

I know that all sounded rather douche-y, but oh well, you should've got my job before I did.

Oh, and I netted a whopping 80 cents on my first 2 SnG's there over the weekend, finishing 8/10 in one, and 2/10 in the other $1+.10 buy-in.  2nd place was 3 bucks.  Nee-ha.  Built my chip stack with 10's over 8's on a pre-flop all-in by me once, then again on a flopped straight with garbage (3-6 or something) in the big blind.  Then it's just a matter of riding it out until I get in the money, mostly.

I've had a good day so far at the limit tables at Poker Champs. I doubled the money I sat down at the table with. Woo Hoo!

I've also requested Doyle Brunson's book from the library.

Not much. I had a 9 and the flop was 9 9 9. I checked. After the turn I bet. One person called. I bet again after the river and they called again. I only won like .35 or something. I've already lost it.  #-o

Yay! Butter and I both won sit & go tourneys yesterday! $1.10 to enter and $5.00 prize. So we netted $3.90 each.

i love sit & goes -- takes a lot less time than a 'real' tourney and it's relatively easy to get into the money

yeah so last night i played in a tourney in cincy... i figured since seattle, fourthisto, butter and l.didy weren't playing in it, i might actually have a chance.

about 80 entrants or so and i ended up in 4th. the way i went out really stung me, though... i was roughly tied for 2nd and the big stack popped in a big blind-stealing bet when i was in the bb. i looked down and found pocket aces, so of course i come over the top with an all-in. i figured he'd fold but instead he called with pocket 6's. so i'm in the driver's seat and he's sitting there with a two-outer. well you can guess what happened... after blanks on the flop, the turn gave him a miracle 6 so i was busted out. had i won that i would've had a commanding chip lead and could've easily coasted to at least 2nd and about 3x more money than i actually won.

i also got into my first ever table-fight. this chump who was at my opening table would say "THE BEST PLAYERS GET THE BEST CARDS" after literally every pot he got, which was annoying enough. he also got into a couple of arguments with other players over stupid things.  i usually ignore all of that stuff 'cause it'll drive you nuts if you let it get to you. but then at one point he took a pot from a woman and busted her out of the tourney. he stood up with his arms in the air and said, "YES!!! Why does anyone even play against me? I am on a mission!!!"  that was too much for me to take, and so i said, "why don't you sit down,  take your chips and stop acting like a rookie?" that set him off and he started giving me all kinds of grief. very coincidentally, two hands later he caught a miracle gutshot straight and took a pretty big pot from me. for one entire minute (it seemed) he sat there just staring at me and didn't move to take his chips. i said, "if that's supposed to be your intimidation stare, you've got a lot of work to do on it, pal. enjoy my chips while you got 'em 'cause they'll be coming back to me soon." then two more hands later i'm on the button and pick up JJ, so i put in a pretty standard 3 BB raise. he's on the BB, looks at me and says, "nobody steals my blinds! i'm all-in". i immediately call and say, "just remember i gave you a chance to fold."

he had a 10-2 offsuite! so my J's held up and he starts ranting and comes up to me and points at me and says, "that's bullshit! that's bullshit!" i ignored him and just looked down and stacked my chips 'cause i actually felt embarrassed that i had acted pretty immaturely and let someone get to me. not my finest moment.

What a douchebag. Way to bust him out.

I had a bad beat in my game last night. I was head-to-head, with about 1/3 of the chips of the other guy. I knew I had my buy-in back in my pocket for finishing at least 2nd so I decided to take some risks and pocket 8s seemed like a good time to do it. He called me with an A-J, and the flop came up blanks. So was the turn. You can probably guess what showed up on the river.

I had been beating people on the river all night (at least four or five times) so it was bound to happen. Needless to say, none of my buddies felt sorry for me at all.
