Rangers pitcher arrested after throwing chair into stands

From what I read (and granted, you can't believe everything you read), the fan threw nothing at the player, just heckled. I don't think it's cool when a fan gives a player too much shit, that has to be frustrating.

But come on, throwing a chair into the stands? He deserves to be punished pretty heavily. MLB star or not.

common sense-what a misnomer in sports. be very lucky that Oakland didn't have a ten cent beer nights like Cleveland had in the 70s(which got rill ugly)

The guy who thought of that owns the St. Paul Saints.  As does Bill Murray.

One can only speculate as to what was said, but from what I've read

Quote
...the fans didn't yell racial slurs or swear at the Texas players.

However, I am skeptical about this.

Franklin Francisco, the player who threw the chair, made his MLB debut this year and he is a Dominican. This leads me to believe, having been around foreign ballplayers, that his comprehension of English is rudimentary at best. Were they taunting him in English, he may not have known what exactly was said.

On the other hand, and this is merely speculation, the victims (husband & wife) have the last name of "Bueno". It is quite possible that they were hurling derogatory and inflammatory remarks at him in Spanish.

Either way, this does not excuse the behavior of either party involved. Sometimes as an adult and a professional athlete, you need to say to yourself "Sticks & stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" (or whatever the Spanish equivalent is). The only time a violent response is even remotely warranted is in the case of self-defense.

A whole buncha folks fucked things up there. No one can claim any form of innocence.

One thing I've noticed is that nobody is saying that the two people hit by the chair were innocent bystanders. By all accounts, Francisco hit the correct people. Then again, he's a pitcher, you'd expect him to have some sort of good aim.

I'm glad somebody mentioned the Carl Everett cell phone incident (also involving the Rangers and A's) from last year. Now Carl Everett isn't the most warm and cuddly person in major league baseball, but that doesn't give any fan the right to chuck a cell phone at him. And because of that, the Rangers are going to be overly atuned to the Oakland crowd. It's just common sense.

It would also be common sense to beef up security for what is obviously a flashpoint series, but what do I know? It's not like I have any stadium operations experience or anything...

I also find it interesting that all these fan/player interactions seem to always happen in just two cities...Oakland and Chicago.
